We arrived at Abbey’s Guesthouse mid-afternoon on a hot and humid day to a warm welcome and the offer of a cold drink…perfect!
Located just a 5 minute drive from Cairns airport Abbey’s is a Colonial Queenslander house that was raised a few years ago…unfortunately neither of us has a good enough memory to remember what Abbey told us about why it was raised lol It has Queen, Double, Twin, Single and Family size rooms and Abbey is more than happy to move things around to suit your needs. Our room had a Queen and single bed in it with plenty of room for all our luggage and for me and my sticks to still move around! The room had a ceiling fan and an air conditioning unit and, in the summer heat, we recommend you stick both on!!
The ‘lobby’ area of Abbey’s has a sofa, computer for guests use, and lots of little interesting nick nacks. The bathroom is through the lobby and breakfast area in a room just off the balcony and is shared with the other guests.
Breakfast was served out on the balcony over looking the lovely rainforest garden. Fruit smoothies, beautiful fruit platter (see below), cereal, toast…oh and lovely tomato jam! Definitely worth trying that!
Our host, Abbey, was wonderfully helpful throughout our stay and knew a great deal about the local area and the Queensland drive down to Brisbane. She pointed us to lots of lovely waterfalls and walks in the rainforest that we would pass on our next days journey and even gave us a map. You can also book tours with Abbey and I am sure she’d know the best ones!
We would recommend Abbey’s for families, couples, and people travelling on their own.

Disabled Access: There are steps at both the front and back entrances which make it difficult for people with walking sticks/crutches to get in and out of the property, but, if you can manage stairs (even very slowly) once you get into the property everything is on one level. The bathroom has one small step into it, doesn’t have any grab rails but does have a shower that’s easy to get in/out of.
